-
hook must entirely support the load; latch
must not support the load
-
NEVER side or back load a hook
-
NEVER tip load a hook
-
when using two slings make sure that the angle from the
vertical is not greater than 45°
-
always check before the use, that the hook can support
the load; never lift a load greater than the working load limit; lift
the load without shocks
-
hook exposure to temperature greater than 200-250°C
affect mechanical performances; in this case is better consider a WLL
reduction from 20% to 40% depending on the temperature reached. In any
case don't exceed 400 °C
- NEVER repair, modify, weld or heat a hook
|
COLD TEMPERATURE SERVICE
(BELOW -40°C)
-
these hooks must be ordered with certified impact
properties and certified magnetic test performed by the manufacturer
-
hooks with surface defects must not be used
until these are removed by grinding (remember that the maximum reduction
allowed is 5% of the original cross section)
- hooks that have been welded or modified must not be
used
-
all the hooks should undergo a periodic surface
inspection using either visual and magnetic test
-
all liftings should be performed at a slow rate; any
shock should be avoided; don't change the speed
- all the hooks should be given a visual inspection before each lift
|
-
at least every 3 months, or even more frequently when the
accessory is used in severe conditions, a visual inspection is recommended
to detect deformations, surface defects or anything else that could affect
hook performances
-
hooks used in frequent and stressing operative conditions
must be regularly inspected taking care of:
-
thread: damaged thread cause loss of load
-
opening: must not be greater than 10%
of nominal value
-
worn areas: in correspondence of contact with
slings and of maximum strength area
-
distortions
-
every year, or even more frequently when the
accessory has been used in severe conditions, perform a magnetic test or a
non destructive test at 1,5 times the WLL
- make sure that the dimensions 2 and 3 are not altered significantly
(more than 5% of the original dimension)
-
hooks must be removed from service when the
standards are not respected
-
record all the inspections

MAINTENANCE
Swivel without bearing
At least every three months perform following operations:
- clean carefully contact area between swivel basket and hook' shank and
lubricate inside with slightly clammy oil; rotate the swivel or hook in
order to spread the oil on the hook shank
- Oil the contact area between nut and swivel basket
